Cinemamamra Nossa Terra, our voice debuts at SPCine Play with movies about the original people struggles

Free Show brings thirteen films from different parts of the world, with varied styles and formats

THE Show our land, our voicecurated by CAROL ALMEIDA and Kênia Freitasarrives at the SPCine Play catalog throughout Brazil, free of charge, bringing 13 films from different parts of the world, with varied styles and formats and a common goal: map and bring stories of struggle to peoples spread across our planet by the right to earth.

Produced by the carioca company Caprisciana Produções, the show is formed by 5 feature films and 8 short films from different countries, works in which, in the words of the curators, “the demand for land and the affirmation of the voice itself are inseparably unite in political and aesthetic claims.” They are documentaries, fictions, experimental films and animations that go beyond the complaint: they reinforce the identities of each community.

Colonization, globalization, financial capitalism are based on the kidnapping of territories and the dispossession of peoples. A process under construction for a few centuries. Our desire in this curatorship was to unite the most diverse struggles of peoples for their lands, in films that bet on the political and aesthetic consequences of these claims”Explains the curator Kênia Freitas.

The selected works defend in poetic forms the right to earth through their visual narratives and artistic creations. From Palestine to the Colombian Andes, passing through the Maxakali territory (among the today called states of Minas Gerais and Bahia, in Brazil); from Mexico to the Pernambuco forest zone, passing favela da Prainha, in Guarujá/SP; From the Haitian Sea to the agricultural fields of Mali, passing through the struggle of the landless movement in southern Goiás.

Brazil appears in films that map native populations in the Mata de Pernambuco area (Aboutfrom Felipe Peres Calheiros), in the coast of São Paulo (We are all herefrom Chica Andrade and Rafael Melim) and in southern Goiás (Floorfrom Camila Freitas), that the show relates to other experiences.

Another intention in our curatorial gesture was to try to think of these political and aesthetic expressions of cinema from territories that, in common, have a long relationship with colonial violence. What are the answers in the filmic language that directors and directors of Palestine, Colombia, Mali and Aboriginal villages in Australia and indigenous villages in Brazil are producing?”, CAROL ALMEIDA.

With a look at the children’s audience, two films are part of the selection: Brazilian animation Mother, the enchanted (2019), SHAWARA MAXAKALI and Charles Bicalhowhich seeks ancestry in myths and narratives that are in the founding of the Maxakali people and Palestinian A short movie about children (2023), from Ibrahim Handalwho uses children’s imagination to challenge borders.

Among the engaged and/or poetic reflections proposed on communities that had their ancestral territories invaded or expelled from them in ostensive colonizing processes, the Palestinian population gained special attention. Beyond the short Ibrahim Handalit should be noted Ouroboros (2017), BASMA ALSHARIFwhich uses reverse assembly to produce the feeling of “eternal return” and Your father was born 100 years old, just like Nakba (2017), Experimental Short Razan al Salahwhich rebuilds maps of a story with the help of files and technology.

The show movies will be available for a year in the SPCine Play catalog. Check out the schedule CLICKING HERE.
