Cinemao Last project by David Lynch that will be shown at a film festival

Locarno 2025 festival features Radu Jude Dracula, the last movie with David Lynch and 99 world premieres in bold selection

THE Locarno International Film Festivalone of the most traditional cinematic events in Europe, revealed the program of its 78th edition, which takes place from August 6 to 16, 2025, in Switzerland. This year, the festival bets on a selection marked by the diversity, innovation and weight names of world cinema, consolidating its reputation as a space for discoveries and consecration.

Among the highlights is the world premiere of Drackerdirected by the Romanian filmmaker Radu Juderecognized for their provocative narratives and critical look on social and historical issues. The film is part of the international competition, promising to attract a close glances from critics and the public.

David Lynch’s last work marks out of competition

Another highlight of the programming is the display of Legend of the Happy Workerdirected by Duwayne Dunham and with executive production of the legendary David Lynchdied in January 2025. The feature, which will be shown out of competition, represents the last film project with direct participation of Lynchworld reference in surrealist and experimental cinema.

The film addresses, in a surreal and satirical way, the dilemmas and absurdities of the contemporary corporate environment. The presence of Lynch as an executive producer reinforces the expectation around the work, especially among fans of the director of classics as Twin Peaks and Blue velvet.

In addition to the titles already mentioned, the Locarno Festival 2025 gathers productions by renowned filmmakers, such as Abdellatif Kechiche, Vincent Grashaw, Sho Miyake, Ben Rivers and ROSANNE PEL. The selection also includes the winner of Cannes this year, IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENTand unpublished works in various categories, adding 221 films, 99 world premieres.

The event also pays honors to personalities of international cinema, as Jackie Chan, Emma Thompson and Lucy Liu, recognizing their contributions to seventh art.

Locarno reaffirms commitment to contemporary cinema

According to the artistic director GIONA A. NAZZAROthis year’s national team reflects a “living, necessary and brave” cinema, which dialogues with the challenges of the present and bets on new forms of expression.
