2007 feature film, directed by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, appears at the top of the list
A quarter of the century has gone. Given this, it is natural that throughout 2025 lists appear compiling the best that has been done in the 2000s so far, whether in the universe of music or cinema.
THE Rolling Stone USAfor example, it has already released its ranking with the 100 best films released during this period. The list was released on July 1st and brings works for all tastes: from documentaries to superhero movies, through epic dramas and animations.
At the top of the list, the jury of RS put a true masterpiece of contemporary cinema: Black blood (There Will Be Bloodin the original in English).
On black blood
Released in 2007, the film was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The protagonist actor interprets Daniel Plainviewa miner who migrates to the oil field in search of fortune in the California of the late 19th century.
During the plot, partially based on the novel Oil! (1927), from Upton Sinclairthe oil baron Daniel Plainview deals with the relentless eagerness for wealth and psychological issues, besides the deafness of the child.
The epic drama, set with locations in Los Angeles and in Marfain Texasreceived eight nominations in the Oscar 2007 and won the best actor awards for Daniel Day-Lewis, and best photography, Robert Elswit.
The best 21st century movie
The text on Black blood In the Rolling Stone list was written by the critic AA DOWDwhich points out:
“Perhaps the movie really loses because its portrait of a past season has distorted itself, with disturbing inevitability, in a present prophecy. What could be more relevant to the 21st century than a drama about a vampire capitalist, who comes as a creator and leaves as a destroyer?”
They are also contemplated in the early positions of the Movies List like Moonlight (2016), Parasite(2019), Mad Max: Road of Fury (2015), Mulholland Drive (2001), among others.
