In the new plot, a group of five friends played by Madlyn Cline, Chase sul Wonders, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon and Jonah Hauer-King forces a truck driver to deviate a collision with their car. This makes him lose control of the car and break the railing in a curve, generating an accident.
The vehicle hangs on the edge of a cliff. They try to pull it, but the car falls with the wounded driver inside. The young people call the police, but run away from the scene and then count on the help of Teddy’s powerful and rich father, one of the friends involved in the accident, so as not to suffer from consequences.
A year later, after spending a period, they return to Southport and Young Danica receives a note with the following message: “I know what you did last summer” and therefore the wave of violence begins. Therefore, young people decide to pursue the only survivors of a similar massacre in 1997, the former couple Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.).
Following the film, the groom of Danica Wyatt (Joshua Orpin), the shepherd Judah (Austin Nichols), Teddy and other characters are killed by a murderer as a fisherman. Therefore, Ava, Danica and Stevie are looking for a safe place on Teddy’s boat.
However, as soon as the boat begins to move, Stevie reveals that the driver who died in the accident generated by them was his boyfriend, Sam Cooper. At the time, the character says that he really didn’t recognize the car, nor did he realize that it was him. But when he discovered, his anger and pain for his loss made him find a plan of revenge and passed a fisherman.

The character is brought to his bar and makes a great revelation: Ray was one of the killers. In addition, he was mentor and head of Stevie. What motivated him was that Southport’s powerful were trying to eliminate the violent history of the city so that it was an attractive destination for people’s holidays.
Ava asks him if he really shot Stevie, so he is stabbed by the character. However, Julie appears, is attacked by the murderer, but is saved because he dies when he was hit by Ava.
Closing the plot, Ava is gathered with Danica, a character who appeared alive on the beach. The two believe that Stevie also survived the fall in the sea, which refers to a possible sequence of the franchise.
