Selection gathers expected titles of Park Chan-Wook, Kathryn Bigelow, Benny Safdie and documentaries by Sofia Coppola and Lucrecia Martel
The 81st edition of Venice Film Festival It has just announced its official programming, and the line-up is heavy. Among the highlights are world premieres of new features of names like Jim Jarmusch, Yorgos Lanthimos, Noah Baumbach and Luca Guadagnino. The event takes place between August 27 and September 6, as part of the Venice Biennial.
The opening will be on behalf of La Grazianew movie Paolo Sorrentino. Then the programming brings Father Mother Sister Brotherdramatic comedy of Jarmusch starred Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver and Tom Waits; The sci-fi Bugoniafrom Lanthimoswith Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons; Jay Kellydirected by Baumbach and starring George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Laura Dern; and the thriller After the huntfrom Gaddagninumaddressing the #METOO theme with Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and AYO EDEBIRI.
Also debut on the show The Smashing Machinemovie set in the UFC universe directed by Benny Safdie and with artist trail Nala Sinephrostarring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt; Dead Man’s Wirereturn of GUS VAN SANT After seven years, with Bill Skarsgård; and HOUSE OF DYNAMITEpolitical suspense of Kathryn Bigelow starred by Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson.
Other highlights include The Wizard of the Kremlinfrom Olivier Assayascentered on a fictitious strategist of Vladimir Putin; In the other Choicenew feature of Park Chan-Wook; L’étrangeradaptation of The foreigner of Camus put François Ozon; and the awaited Frankensteinfrom Guillermo Del Toro.
The festival will also be space for important documentaries: Sofia Coppola sig Marc by Sofiaabout the stylist Marc Jacobs; Werner Herzog spear Ghost Elephants; and LUCCRECIA MARTEL debut Nuestra Tierraa portrait on colonialism and the murder of the Argentine indigenous leader Javier Chocobar.
In the out -of -competition section, Charlie Kaufman presents the short How to Shoot a Ghostwith Jessie Buckley. The closing of the critical week will be due to 100 Nights of Heroof the director Julia Jackmanwith the participation of Charli XCX.
