“Set in the scorching heat of Spanish summer, the film follows Sofia (Emma Mackey) and her sick mother, Rose (Fiona Shaw), while traveling to the coastal city of Almería in search of the help of Dr. Gómez (Vincent Perez), an enigmatic healer who can have the key to Rose’s mysterious disease.
While long -buried tensions boiled between them, Sofia is attracted to the magnetic and free Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). But under the strong sun, the growing independence and the search for freedom of Sofia become too much for their controlling mother. And that forces the daughter to question the true nature of Rose’s disease. Secrets, lies and revelations come to light, taking Sofia to doors that may better leave closed.“
When does the news debut?
Based on the homonymous novel of Deborah Levynominated for Booker Prize in 2016 and selected for Goldsmiths Prize, the film had its world debut in the competition of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and arrives at Mubi on August 22.
