‘Predator: Prey’ is the fifth installment in the ‘Predator’ saga (the seventh if we count those of ‘Alien vs. Predator’) and the second feature film directed by Trachtenberg after ’10 Cloverfield Street’. ‘The dam’ is a prequel set nearly 300 years before the original, featuring a young Comanche woman being (presumably) the first human to face a Predator from another planet.

In an interview with slashfilm, Trachtenberg spoke about a sequence that he unfortunately had to cut from the film. The director spoke about his love for the original classic ‘Predator’ from 1987 and the things he felt he had to include in his entry into the ‘Predator’ mythos, which included a thrilling treetop chase between Naru and Predator. Apparently, the sequence made it to the preview stage, but it ultimately couldn’t make it into the final product.

“I was, for some reason, really obsessed with making the fights more vertical and seeing the Predator jumping through the trees. By the way, I remember now that hThere was an original draft for this for a long time, I mean, not just the draft, we foresaw And we almost had a fight where they were both up in the trees in a treetop chase, just because that kind of hinted at the physicality in the original ‘Predator’ movie and was never fully exploited.”

A cast member, Julian Black Antelopehas also revealed a subplot that was cut from the final montage about his character, the chief of the tribe, looking for a successor due to health issues.

“My character, Chief Kehetu, had his own story, which involved another character named Wasape, played by Stormee Kipp. It was kind of like the changing of the guard, so to speak, my character was already walking out the door, he was dying, crippled and needed to find a successor to pass the torch to, so his eyes were always on the men traditionally; he never ever considering a woman. Instead of taking the focus off the character of Amber Midthunder, from Naru’s story, they chose to focus everything on her.. Which is totally understandable. Although there were quite a few scenes that were cut with Chief Kehetu that would be great to see, I still think everyone will be super excited for what they see.”

Maybe, if the prequel is released in domestic formatwe can see these scenes (or their approach) in the form of bonus tracks or easter eggs from ‘Predator: La presa’.
