Motion Pictures Guild acquires North American rights to Hong Sang-soo’s “Walk Up”.

Cinema Guild has acquired North American distribution rights to prolific Korean author Hong Sangsoo’s latest feature film. Go up. The film is scheduled to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and will also screen at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Film Guild announces it will release Go up In theaters in 2023, following the company’s release of Hong’s other title for 2022, novelist filmthis autumn.

Go up It stars Kwon Hye-hyo, making her ninth appearance in the film Hong, as a filmmaker who goes to a building owned by an old friend (Lee Hyung) with her daughter Jeongsoo (Park Miso). After exploring the structure, the director leaves for a business visit, but returns to the same location but at a different time.

with Go up, Hong resumes his interest in structure, a defining characteristic of his work. But this time the structure is simple. As Byungsoo ascends the building’s floors, Hong fills these spaces with everyday details, including art, love, career, religion, food choices and home renovations.

“With each new film, Hong Sangsoo continues to surprise and delight us in new ways,” said Motion Picture Guild President Peter Kelly. “We’re looking forward to seeing the public’s reaction to Walk Up, the wonderfully original and surprising Hong Kong.

The deal was brokered by Kelly and Jungjo Suh of Korean sales company Finecut.
