Christmas Day is approaching and children play at Marseille High School Square under the supervision of Mr. Blankard. At Borgne and the new facility, this pike quickly bought the nickname of Merlusse because of the code and its likely bad character.
When leaving for a vacation cleaning, not all students are placed in the same brand. Some residents will spend their vacations with their family, while others will have to stay in the Merlus Company. But is the old supervisor as heavy as it seems?
An unknown pagan film
When you learn about the rich and shining film of Marcel Pagnol, a real pioneer of cinema in France and with unparalleled stories, we often produce a classic that is a Marseille trilogy (Marius, Fanny and Caesar), a sleeper or a daughter of a pus.
However, the author of my father’s glory struck more than 15 films, some of which are unjustly unknown to most spectators. The director in 1935 was shot at Tier de Marseille’s high school (the institution where Pagnol himself conducted part of his teaching), Merluse is one of the small wonders that are virtually unnecessary.
This Wednesday, July 30, to correct this violation, he returned to the cinema as a retrospective part of Marseille, as well as his 5 films, which also deserves your attention (Cigalon, Naıs, Manon des sources, ugolin and my mill letters).
A complex character of a tender portrait
Like feature films that use and see more, Merlus is haloked by tenderness, carelessness, whose humanity only has a secret pagnol. A small Christmas tale about the tender simplicity, this film does not compete with the size that other Pagnolesque works share.
It still remains in doubt about wealth and in depth, which reaches a man, first and foremost: a complex and immature Merlus, which is interpreted by the excellent Henry Puppon (who will later play in the work of MANON DES sources).
