Lula and Putin discuss war in Ukraine and cooperation in Brics


The conversation between the leader of Brazil and Russia lasted 40 minutes

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received a call from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin Saturday (9) to discuss the war in Ukraine and cooperation within the Brics.

According to the Brazilian government, in the call, which lasted about 40 minutes, “Putin shared information on its ongoing discussions with the United States and recent speakers for peace between Russia and Ukraine”.

In addition, the leader of the Kremlin thanked Brazil for his commitment and interest and spoke of the results of his recent meeting with the American correspondent Steve Witkoff and on top with Donald Trump, scheduled for August 15 in Alaska.

“Lula stressed that Brazil has always supported the dialogue and the search for a peaceful solution and has reiterated that its government is available to contribute to what is necessary, also within the Friends of Peace group, launched to the initiative of Brazil and China”, adds the note.

During the conversation, Lula and Putin also discussed the current international political and economic scenario and faced the “cooperation between the two countries within the Brics”.

In turn, the Russian president congratulated Brazil for the results of the Brics summit, held on 6 and 7 July, in Rio de Janeiro. Already in the bilateral sphere, both leaders have strengthened their intention to organize the next edition of the high level of Brazil-Russian cooperation this year.

Previously, the Kremlin had already announced that the pedestal “expressed its support for efforts to promote the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis”.

The Russian government also stressed that Putin and Lula “confirmed their mutual intention to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and Brazil”.

Yesterday (8), Putin held telephone conversations with leaders from other partner countries, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. .
