As a child of Algerian descent, Majid temporarily collected Georges’ parents after the tragic disappearance of his parents in Paris on October 17, 1961. But Georges, who was still young, was deceived by the expulsion of the house, the fear or jealousy, so she sealed the latter’s difficult fate, thus condemning her difficult life. This shameful past, Georges, repressed and never received it.

A shocking sequence

One of the most amazing scenes of the film – and perhaps one of the most amazing deaths of the 2000 cinema – Majid calls Georges in his modest apartment. The scene, with great visual vigilance, does not contain dramatic music, is not an index that will announce the drama that will happen. It happens in the silence and banality of everyday life. And yet, without screaming, Majid died of Georges, cut his throat with a knife. The gesture is cruel, dry, unexpected. He freezes blood, not by his schedule, but by what he has shown: the silent explosion of his whole life, marked by refusal, crime and forgetting.

At the same time, it suddenly becomes dead without the slightest warning of crime and trauma, and this scene is a way to succeed in the success of a sudden death in the cinema and surprise the viewer forever.

This suicide, free or spectacular, far away, enhances the film’s tension and acts as a cruel mirror, in George and the audience.
