The actress starred Grey’s Anatomy since its creation in 2005, and how Ellen Pompeo prepares to step back from the show in season 19 open on his podcast. It was a blow to her character and fans, as she explained when talking about the death of the series she found most heartbreaking:
I’d say it’s Derek Shepherd who is dying and Mark Sloan who comes in second. But Derek Shepherd’s death was very, very emotional and I knew how difficult it was going to be for the fans. It’s really hard to play these things, because you can’t really pretend. You have to put yourself in a dark and really sad place, so it’s always sad when someone dies, but for sure Derek Shepherd’s death was the saddest of all sad scenes, that’s for sure.
Ellen Pompeo previously talked about some of the traumatic events Meredith endured along with Patrick Dempsey’s “McDreamy”. The episode of the hospital shooting, one of the Grey’s Anatomy the best episodes so far – featured a scene where Meredith and Cristina watch Derek get shot, and Pompeo said the actresses had to “scream and cry and go crazy 30 fucking times”, stepping into a dark place for a scene that Pompeo said he wouldn’t do it again today. . Come to think of it, it’s no surprise Derek’s death in a car accident would be his saddest, as would Mark Sloan (Eric Dane’s so-called “McSteamy” ), which succumbed following the plane crash of season 8.
However, not all character games involved such tragic scenarios as well Grey’s Anatomy is most definitely known for attracting former cast members to reprise their roles in guest appearances over the seasons. Ellen Pompeo said she had selfish intentions when she thought about who she would like to see return to the show, saying:
Strictly, just selfishly, as a character I love on the show, I mean, I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I’d probably say Alex Karev, Justin Chambers.
These two actors were friends before and after their time together on ABC’s hit medical drama, so that choice makes a lot of sense. Pompeo expressed sadness at Chambers’ departure at that moment, saying I thought Grey’s Anatomy gave Alex Karev the “best goodbye”. However, the television audience strongly disagreed. Fans were furious that Alex left his wife Jo by letter who said he had decided to move to Kansas and be reunited with his ex-wife Izzie and their children he didn’t know existed.
Unfortunately, when the characters leave, they are often replaced by others, and season 19 has already added new faces to the hospital.
