Russia attacked Kremenchuk’s central city with drones at night, the mayor of the city said on Tuesday, defining the action of a sign that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace.
The reported attack took place a day after the President of the United States Donald Trump met European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Washington stating that the United States would contribute to guaranteeing Ukrainian safety in any agreement to end the Russian war in the country.
After Monday’s meeting, Trump said he called Putin and started organizing a meeting between Putin and Zelenskiy, to be followed by a trilateral summit between the three presidents, with the aim of achieving a peace agreement.
“Exactly while Putin ensured Trump by phone in search of peace, and when President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had conversations to the White House with European leaders on a fair peace, Putin’s army launched another great attack against Kremenchuk,” said Vitali Maletski, mayor of the city in the Polláva region.
“Once again, the world has seen that Putin does not want peace – he wants to destroy Ukraine,” he said.
The night attack on Ukraine has been the largest so far in August, with Russia who launched 270 drones and 10 missiles, according to the Ukrainian aeronautics.
Maletskyi said that dozens of explosions have shaken the city, targeting the energy and transport infrastructures, leaving hundreds of people in the region of polling without energy.
The Ukrainian aeronautics said she had fallen 230 drones and six missiles, but recorded attacks in 16 locations.
The Governor of Poltava Volodymyr Kohut said that the attack has damaged administrative buildings from an operation of local energy infrastructure.
“Fortunately, there were no victims,” Kohut said on Telegram. He said that in the Lubny district about 1,500 residential customers and 119 advertising commercials were out of power.
An attack on drones by Russia on Tuesday morning in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine also damaged the infrastructure, with power cuts recorded in some parts of the northern region, according to the governor ViaCheslav Chaus.
There have been no immediate comments from Russia. Both parties have aimed at essential infrastructures for the military in their attacks during the war in mutual territory, including energy infrastructures.
Russia said Tuesday that Ukrainian drones attack at night they caused fires in an oil refinery and on the roof of a hospital in the Volgograd region.
