Will a longer version be able to fix the bad reviews of the end of the franchise?
‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ It had a good box office collection, but it opened a varied debate of opinions and comments. While some online media gave it solid (but not spectacular) scores, in Rotten Tomatoes received the worst score of all the premieres of the franchise.
Behind this, Universal has announced that the film will have an extended version, and that it is planned to be distributed on digital platforms, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. This new version will include 14 minutes of added material, with an alternate start. (It could be the six-minute prologue that was shared online and in IMAX as a “starter” by the studio, and never saw the light of day in the final cut of the film.)
In addition to the film itself, these “bonuses” will include: the 2019 short film ‘The Battle at Big Rock’; the bts (behind the scenes) of the first night of filming; a tour through the special effects post-production process, and much more.
Director Colin Trevorrow had previously explained why the prologue, (which takes place 65 million years ago), ended up not being included, mentioning: “Maybe it’s very Terrence Malick-esque for a summer movie. It’s the beginning of the film, it’s the first 5 minutes and something I’m very proud of. In the negotiations about how long the film should last, (and that is still a fairly long film), we realized that this scene could not be. Universal supported my proposal to give the prologue away for free and let people see this as an invitation to enter the world we were creating.”
The extended version of the film will run for 2 hours and 40 minutes. In the US, the DVD and digital versions will be released on August 16. In the United Kingdom there is still no confirmed date for this premiere, and in the same way it happens here in Spain.
