Director explains controversial inspiration in the opening credits of After The Hunt, a feature starring Julia Roberts
The Venice Film Festival is only in its early days and has had its first major controversy. This Friday, August 29, during the press conference of After huntingnew feature of Luca Guadagnino (Queer), the director spoke about the inspiration in the classic style of Woody Allen (Hannah and her sisters) for initial credits – even in a plot directly linked to the movement #Metoo.
The choice, of course, generated controversy. In the end, Allen He is still the target of accusations of sexual abuse by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, and his work has been increasingly questioned by the contemporary public. Even so, Gaddagninum He did not go back to his justification when asked about the choice.
“The rude side of the answer would be, ‘Why not?’”Said the filmmaker.”There is a canon with which I grew up. When I started thinking about this movie with my collaborators, we couldn’t stop remembering these works by Woody Allen between 1985 and 1991. There is an infrastructure in the narrative that dialogues with that great body of work.”
He still went beyond reflecting on the relationship between the artist and his accusations:
“AND An interesting gesture to think of an artist who has somewhat faced problems with his being, and what is our responsibility to look at someone we love like Woody Allen.”
At the end, Gaddagninum summarized your decision in a dry way: “And by the way, this source has become a classic. It goes beyond Woody.”
What is the new movie about?
After hunting accompany Julia Roberts (A beautiful woman) as a renowned university professor who sees his career and personal life threatened when his pupil (AYO EDEBIRI, The bear) accuses a colleague and friend (Andrew Garfield, Every time we have) of improper conduct. While dealing with the case, a secret from your own past threatens to surface.
Second Gaddagninumthe proposal of the feature is to explore the shocks between different versions of the truth: “The movie looks at people in their truths. It is not that one is more important than the other, but as we see the shock between them and what are the limits that can coexist.”
