Adapting a much-loved written work for television will likely never be an easy task for writers and producers, and one can imagine that complications only increase when small-screen projects have been preceded by well-received feature films. This is the case with AMC’s episodic twist on Anne Rice’s seminal bloodsucking tale. Interview with the vampirewhich hit the big screen in 1994, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as Lestat and Louis. the news readeris Sam Reid and game of Thrones veteran Jacob Anderson will fill these positions for television respectively, and the two have voiced their thoughts on taking on such iconic roles and why the AMC show won’t just be a rehash.
Although several setbacks that prevent you from moving forward in the past years, Interview with the vampire now everything is ready to reach the public when it debuts on broadcast (AMC +) and linear television (AMC) on October 2nd. And while the cast and crew no doubt expect to face tons of comparisons with Neil Jordan’s film, even beyond what has already been heard, they respectfully noted throughout the series. ” Association of television critics summer tour panel on what a more extended version of the source material will look like than the film could have been. After young co-star Bailey Bass remarked that she wasn’t even born when Kirsten Dunst first landed the role of Claudia Sam Reid reflected on his fandom (and age) explaining perhaps the biggest inherent difference between the two projects, saying:
I was alive when the movie came out and I love it. I love that movie. And I’ve always loved Anne Rice’s work. So I was really excited to participate in its reactivation. Even as a fan of the books, I was thrilled that it happened. But what we’re doing in this adaptation, and in this version of Interview with the Vampire, is looking at a whole series of books. Because when that movie came out, she was still writing them, so they didn’t have a perspective on all the work. And now we have that perspective, so when we look at the character arcs, we’re looking at a much larger scale. So yes, [comparisons are] valid.

While not something that potential viewers immediately consider without being stressed, the 1994 film came out after just four books in Anne Rice’s book. Vampire Chronicles The series had been published, along with nine other novels after 1992. The story of the body thief. (In addition to the two new vampire stories books.) As such, star Sam Reid, showrunner Rolin Jones, and the rest of the creative team had much more material on which to delve into who Lestat’s character was in the world of Interview with the vampire.
Which is not to say that Reid thinks this means that his opinion of Lestat is about to completely belittle. one of the most unusual roles of Tom Cruise . He continued:
And I love what Tom Cruise did as Lestat, and I think he should be loved and remembered for that role. So I’ll never play to touch it. It is a great honor to take on this extraordinary role created by Anne. But we are doing a different show. In fact, we go through all of our books. so it’s a different feeling than that 1994 movie.
I’m not sure Tom Cruise can even recreate what Tom Cruise has done with that role in the past, so good luck with Sam Reid and all his portrayal of the somewhat timeless vampire. For those who enjoyed the underlying homoeroticism between Cruise and Pitt’s characters the most, the cast also revealed that viewers can expect a more direct look at those vibes with the TV show.
I can only agree with what Sam and Bailey said. I mean, it’s a great movie. Brad Pitt by Brad Pitt. Who would want to try to compete with that? Yes, I think he’s a brilliant Louis. But yeah, as Ron also said, that’s a third thing. It’s something else, and there are things about Louis in this interpretation that are somewhat contextual, and reflect the times and reflect a lot of things that bring something else to Louis. Not as good as, but just, you know, why compete? How amazing it is that all these Anne Rice stories can exist, all these Anne Rice interpretations and all the books can exist at the same time.
Embrace the choice between versions, instead of arguing over which one is best. Since this topic is unlikely to be able to persuade people to suppress it, we block these thoughts with the first trailer for Interview with the vampire.
Interview with the vampire will fly to the spectators’ home (only after they have been invited) on Sunday, October 2 at 10pm ET, an hour later The walking dead begins its final eight-episode series. Waiting for vampires and zombies (e also of Rice mayfair witches ) to let loose, go to our Program of the first TV 2022 to see what other new and returning shows are on the way.
