“It’s time to do exactly what I want to do”: The HPI script author beats his projects after the end of the series

This Tuesday, September 16, La Rochelle Fiction Festival has launched a new edition.

For this occasion, the distribution went to HPI’s co-creator Alice Chegarai-Brugnott, who is a member of the French competition jury this year to discuss this new role.

Separation: What more do you have in the role of a jury member of fiction? Is this a sentence that is not refused?

Alisa Chegara-Braugott : This is a sentence that is very happy. Honorable to be a member of La Rochelle Jury, who is the center of French fiction. I am also very interested in doing so.

Finally, I realize that I have a little time to look at all the feature movies normally. So, I’m going to take a fictional bathroom there for a week, it will be quite interesting.

A jury made from author, director, producer, composer and two actors, I will also be able to exchange with various prisms of fiction.

It’s pretty cool. We have a panel of people who come from different professions around movies and series, so it will be interesting to confront point points.

Does TV have a great place in your life? Do you view a lot of fantasy?

I look at many series. I think it would be a little difficult to do my job by staying in my bubble. And then imagine, if I was offered a new project, it was also good to know, it wasn’t just elsewhere. It would be a shame to work for months on what has just come out of another.

The festival selection is very rich every year. Do you have favorite genres?

I am very eclectic. I can hang in all genres except the horrors, because he is very scared. But otherwise I like a lot. I love fantastic and dystropies.

I also like a series of teenagers. I find it difficult to tell myself that style is my kind of predisposition. There are many genres that I like and, as the author, I like mixing genres. I realize that it brings an interesting thing.

As the script author, you must definitely consider the work of your colleagues. How are you going to judge competition work?

I try to look at the artwork as a whole. But it is obvious that I will have a bias. I am really more sensitive to characters, dramaturgy, rhythm, dialogues than the director.

This is a professional distortion. But I will try to pay attention to each element: music, staging … but I know my extra value will really be in the scenario.

There are already works that are distinguished and that you have noted?

Before arriving at the festival, we each watched part of the selection, but not the same. At the moment, no one observed the same issue, so we cannot yet discuss it.

There are things that stand out for me, but I have not yet confronted my opinion with other members of the jury. It will be interesting that we are going to be different and at extra discrepancies. Yes, there are things that stand out, but I haven’t seen everything, so I don’t want to go.

You’ve been working on HPI for more than 6 years. Now, when the series is over, have you ever started working on new projects? Is there a form of pressure, what can be done after such a phenomenon?

It’s funny, but I don’t have pressure at the moment. It may happen next. And now, I’m telling myself that it’s time to do exactly what I want to do.

I have a small passage of freedom to write what I want to do, given what chains or platforms are waiting for me. I really can write about what I like.

And after you know or not, it will be a life that will tell you. In any case, I want to go after a very personal project because it is the right time. So I have a few issues on fire and we will see what the future has for us in the store.

Find HPI every Thursday evening on TF1 and TF1+Platform.
