Captain Stubing and his crew, Bartender Isaac, Doctor Adam, Cruise Directors Julie and Gopher, welcome passengers aboard their luxury liner Pacific Princess each week for a special cruise. Here’s a recap that brings back good memories!

What began with a trio of TV movies in the 70s finally became a TV series on September 24, 1977. 8 years later, on May 24, 1986, La Croisière s’amuse (the love boat was en VO). ) began its final journey as a series. Several specials continued to air after its weekly episodes ended, until 1990.

After 3 TV movies and 9 seasons, the last episode remained faithful to the show – produced by Aaron Spelling – adored: tenderness, jokes and absurd situations, 80s glamor and, of course, 3 scripts and famous guest stars – his brand. .

Over 245 episodes, this formula has been whittled down to endless variations and countless guests, from Tom Hanks to Michael J. Before Fox, through Tim Robbins and Billy Crystal or even Rita Moreno, Gene Kelly, Mickey Rooney, Debbie Reynolds, Ella Fitzgerald, The Village People. Andy Warhol… the eclectic list never ends! In this finale, we can see a very young Terri Hatcher as a dancer (mermaid) in leather in the corps de ballet.

Whether it’s “Happily Ever After / Do I Have A Job For You / Mr. Smith Goes Minikulu” or just “Holy Day” with us, we’re bringing you Season 9, Episode 25, which closed out one of the most memorable episodes on television. series. Immediate boarding!

On deck, Captain Stubbing (Gavin McLeod) is impatiently waiting for Emily Heywood (Marion Ross): if she doesn’t board in time, she’ll miss…their wedding! Finally he comes and rushes into his arms. She then introduces him to Monica Douglas (Renee Taylor, Sylvia Fine from Nanny from Hell), a star wedding planner who promises Stubbing that after this one, he’ll never get married again!

At the front desk, Gopher (Fred Grand) receives a videotape from a former client, Slade Collins (Clive Revill), a billionaire hotel magnate with whom he shared his business ideas. Spencer, on the other hand, is exhausted from her new position as assistant cruise director and asks Ace (Ted McGinley) how he’s been: the latter offers him some valuable advice.

Preparations for the ceremony, which will of course take place on board the Pacific Princess, are well underway. Monica will offer her ideas to the future spouses: confusion starts to make you nervous.

Gopher and Isaac watch a video sent by Slade Collins: he offers Gopher a position as manager of a resort on a Pacific island called Minikulu. The latter is interested and specifies that if he agrees, Isaac will also come with him. A statement that leaves Isaac confused.

Later, Gopher reveals to Isaac and Doc (Bernie Koppel) that he initially turned down the offer because he loves his job, but when they offered him more money, he finally agreed – adding that Isaac would be there. Isaac is still not impressed.

That evening, during dinner, the captain pulls him aside and warns him, but Gopher is determined… and even encourages Ace to apply for his position as purser! Now it’s Isaac’s turn to express himself: he has decided to stay on the liner and not follow his lifelong friend on this new adventure. Gopher is very disappointed.

Examined by Doc, Stubing explains that he was in his cabin trying to decide where to hold the wedding on the ship when he gasped: he thought he was having a heart attack. But the doctor makes a diagnosis: it was just an anxiety attack… because of the wedding!

The next day, Ace presents his candidacy to Gopher, but the latter informs him that he is finally considering not going. Ace is upset that he spent the night writing his paper. Later, Gopher is visited by Slade Collins himself, who tries to persuade him.

While Emily visits Vicki (Jill Whelan) to find out about the latest strange behavior of the young woman’s father, Doc finds Ace asleep at the reception. He tells her that he needs to get together before the Gopher’s farewell party, which will be held that evening, when he leaves the next day. Ace doesn’t understand anything anymore: one moment he stays, the next he leaves, and he threw away his candidacy, which he starts looking for in the trash can.

While Emily and Monica are still preparing for the wedding, Stubing keeps missing the call and is too nervous to make any decisions about it. The organizer then warns Emily that she might not be ready for it, which worries her. Another member of the crew is nervous: Gopher again questions his decision and decides to stay behind. Ace is about to explode.

The commander and his future wife finally end their conversation. What makes Stubing so upset is that he hasn’t told Emily everything: he admits that he never married Vicki’s mother. Emily knows because Vicki told her everything and she also knows that the latter’s mother ran away before telling her she was pregnant. He confesses to her another secret: he is a former alcoholic. Again, Emily replies that she figured it out on her own. Snoring: he knows it too!

It was Emily’s turn to tell her that she had been nervous a week ago, until she had doubts about the wedding, but when she tried to imagine her life without him, she couldn’t and calmed down. She suggests Stubbing do the same: he’s trying, but he also can’t imagine life without her. He wants to marry her. they kiss

Gopher’s farewell party is being held…without Gopher! Isaac finds her brooding in her cabin. He doesn’t think he’s up to the job he’s being offered. Isaac reassures him, but Gopher says he won’t do it alone and needs him. The latter tries to persuade him: such opportunities are missed only by cowards, and his friend Gopher Smith is no coward.

Gopher finally shows up at his party and takes the stage to say goodbye to his job and friends. The emotion reaches its peak as he thanks his colleagues one by one, taking the time to say a few memorable words – with tears in his eyes – to each person in attendance.

D-Day has arrived. Emily prepares with the help of Vicki and Judy (Pat Claus), while Doc, Gopher, Isaac and Ace help with the stabbing. He is then offered the cuffs, which the captain says he can’t take, but his friends tell him that they all participated. Moved, he finally gets them and the group helps him put them on. This is a true declaration of love from the entire crew to their captain.

Finally it’s time to say yes and it’s a simple and very moving wedding that closes the series: it’s short but says it all. Then the newlyweds descend the stairs by the cheering crowd that has come to celebrate them.

Emily then throws the bouquet and Vicky catches it: Will the Commander’s daughter be the next one to marry? That we will never know. As the rice is thrown at them, the couple is delighted and the image freezes on their broad smiles: the end of La Croisière s’amusière.
