The fourth chapter of the horror franchise “evocation of evil” debuted in Brazilian theaters on September 4, 2025 to end the journey of the famous professionals and and Lorraine Warren, known internationally due to their paranormal investigations. The work is inspired by a terrifying true story in the Pennsylvania Pennsylvania family in the 80s.
The new production, “evocation of evil: last ritual”, is set in different periods, starting from 1964, when demonologists try to discover the mysteries of a cursed mirror. Years later they put their lives at risk to fight the forces of evil present in the object.
Know the Puffo case that inspired the function
It all started when the couple Jack and Janet Puffo, together with the two daughters, lived in a duplex in West Pittston, in Pennsylvania, in 1976. Furthermore, the residence had another part in which Jack’s parents went to live. Over time, new members have also arrived in the family, a couple of twins.
Everything went well in the experience of the family, until about a decade later, in 1985, strange events began to happen, with the fall of a ceiling lamp, which damned one of the couple’s daughters, the Shannon girl. That was only the beginning of a series of strange and frightening events.
The family came to report that they were listening to terrifying shouts, physical attacks and smelly without any explanation. Among the abnormal events there are the fact that the dog was thrown against the wall, the children pushed the stairs and even the fact that Jack claims to have been the victim of sexual aggressions by an entity.
All this made the family desperate. So they made the decision to make two exorcism rituals, but they were not successful. It was then that they decided to expose everything they had lived, making all the events public. For this they were in TV programs and participated in reports in the newspapers. In this way and Lorraine Warren learned the case.
Investigations
Intrigued by events, the demonologists went to the house of the stinking and came to the conclusion that there were four spirits on the spot: a violent young man, a man who had died in the residence, an elderly woman and a demon who used other appearances to terrorize the family.
In his home experience, and he said he noticed strange things the first night, when he saw a sudden drop temperature, huge furniture and even the formation of a dark mass in front of his eyes.
Lorraine said he heard a negative charge that went to the residents. The sessions were kept with holy oil, holy water and crucifixes. They generated violent manifestations at home, but apparently they have not annihilated the threat.
However, then Joseph Adonizio, the shepherd of the region, said that after strong prayers in progress, the demonic actions stopped. However, Janet Stuscl said that, despite everything that was done, he still felt strange noises and noticed shadows in his home. So, in 1987, the family made the decision to leave the house and move to the city of Wilkes-Barre, a town nearby.
Even with all the reputation of Male-Haun, the house was sold. A curious detail is that the residents said they had not noticed anomalies on the spot.
How was the adaptation of history to the cinema?
Scurl’s story was described in the book “The Haunted: One Family’s Nightmare” in 1986. This production was possible only because of the partnership between the family and the Warrens. Five years later the work has been adapted to television. However, it was only in the film “Evoc Evil 4: Last Ritual” that history has gained a scope all over the world.
