The universe of the detective ‘Sherlock Holmes’ will expand on HBO Max with two series already in development
When it seemed that ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ was going to be left in the limbo of eternally postponed projects, HBO Max has announced that Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes universe is still aliveand which will expand with various series and spin-offs on your platform.
We do not know if these projects will replace the third installment of the franchise or if Downey Jr. will reprise his role in them, but what is certain is that there are already two series in development and that the actor will be an executive producer together with Lionel Wigram, also producer of the films of Guy Ritchie in which Downey Jr. brought to life the character of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell of the Team Downey company will also executive produce alongside them.
Additional details, including the premise and how interconnected both series might be with existing material, are being kept under wraps. Both projects hail from Warner Bros. Television, whose film counterpart produced the films.
HBO thus adds a new franchise to its platform to fight in the war it maintains against Netflix, Amazon and company, which joins the announced Colin Farrell’s Penguin spin-off from ‘The Batman’ and to the new ‘Game of Thrones’ series with ‘The House of the Dragon to the head.
Robert Downy Jr.’s production company, Team Downey, is collaborating with HBO again after producing the reboot series of ‘Perry Mason’ and ‘For your own good’, a series that is in the final phase of development.
Sherlock Holmes holds the world record for the most portrayed literary character in film and television history., with more than 75 actors in the role. A little less than a year ago we were also able to enjoy on Netflix a film focused on the detective’s younger sister, ‘Enola Holmes’, starring the star of ‘Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and based on the novels Nancy Springer.
