Today, Stanley Kubrick’s name is resonant as one of the greatest directors of all time. During our nearly fifty -year -old career, the American filmmaker made 13 films (his first count, he refused, fear and desire) for so many masterpieces.

A war film that is inspired by a real historical fact

The latter is characterized by many types, for example, science fiction (2001: space odyssey), horror (shine), comedy (doctor Flamuri) or war film. A fully metallic jacket, among his most emblem works, Stanley Kubrick signed the paths of fame at the beginning of his career, which took place during World War I.

The film is an adaptation of Hampri Kobi’s novel, which is inspired by a true story. In 1915, four Corporates were shot by the French staff for the “example” of the Marni battle, refused to participate in the suicide mission. Although less well known, this episode remains one of the most dark French army history.

Glory’s paths mark the first cooperation between Stanley Kubrick and Kirk Douglas (they will then meet Peplum Spartacus). The American actress gives her qualities to Colonel Dick, who is a lawyer who has been elected to three soldiers. Despite its enormous features, the film was not a great success when it came out, in particular because of its censorship, including France, in several countries.

Prohibited in France for 18 years

The trails of fame were not the taste of the French authorities at the time. Although the film’s message is primarily an anti-militaristic and non-anti-French, political pressure has hosted work in cinemas in France, censorship, which then continued in French-speaking countries (Belgium and Switzerland) and Europe.

Until 1975, this censorship was not completed, after sixty years of the facts that inspired Kubrick’s film. Today is among the largest films dedicated to the Great War, the trails of fame will no longer be more prominent in France … on the Prime video, as the film will leave the Amazon Service catalog on September 30.
