Today with billions of views, internet concert project founded in 2008 saw its destination change more than half a decade after its debut

THE Tiny Desk Concerts It is, for years, a darling of the internet. Produced since 2008 by NPR (National Public Radio) Music in the United States, the show series has over 3.5 billion online views and historical performances of artists and groups like Anderson Paak, Alicia Keys, Jorja Smith, Adele, CA7RIEL & PACO AMOROSO, Tyler The Creator, Harry Stylesamong many others.

But there was a specific presentation that made the project burst on social networks. In an interview with Silvio Essinger for the newspaper The globethe executive producer Suuaya Mohamed revealed that the fate of the performance series has changed thanks to T-Pain.

The 1984 singer and rapper was hugely successful in the 2000s for the use of self-tune, a tool that corrects discretion-but, in the case of the American, was employed to create specific textures and phrases. His participation in the Tiny Desk Concerts in 2014 was revealing to the general public, as many did not know of the artist’s vocal capacity, and to the NPR herself, who saw potential in the initiative.

“It all started for fun, and for many years, Tiny Desk was done with artists who were going through Washington. If they were showing a club at 9:30 pm, we would ask, ‘Hey, would you like to spend here at NPR and play a little before?’

From then on, Tiny Desk began receiving artists who were not necessarily in Washington, a city that concentrates NPR’s operations for other commitments. The “menu” of musical genres has also expanded: it was no longer mostly indie to also add hip hop, R&B and Jazz, as well as musicians from the so -called “Latin music”. Even Brazilians as Milton Nascimento, Seu Jorge and Liniker already participated.
