House Ethics Council rejects Janones’ impeachment over anti-amnesty T-shirt

In addition to the T-shirt case, Janones responds to two other cases still under review by the Ethics Council

The Ethics Council of Chamber of Deputies rejected the request to revoke the deputy’s mandate on Wednesday 8th André Janones (Avante-MG). The request was presented after the parliamentarian had worn, inside the National Congress, a t-shirt with the phrase “amnesty is shit”, as a sign of protest against the project that provides amnesty for people involved in the attempted coup d’état of 8 January 2023.

The rapporteur of the case, MP Zé Haroldo Cathedral (PSD-RR), considered that Janones’ attitude is “within the limits of reasonableness” and does not constitute a violation of his parliamentary immunity. He recommended dismissal of the case, which passed with 13 votes in favor and 4 against.

In addition to this case, Janones is responsible for two other trials at the Ethics Council.

The first concerns a post on social media, in which he called the deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) of “murderer” and “corrupt” on X (formerly Twitter). The second lawsuit accuses Janones of demanding that his office employees repay part of their salaries to pay campaign debts.

Both requests were submitted by the PL and will be analyzed this Wednesday.
