The White House criticizes the Nobel Peace Prize winner for ignoring Trump

The prize was awarded to Venezuelan María Corina Machado

The White House criticized this Friday (10) the Nobel Peace Prize committee which chose the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as the winner and not the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

The Republican campaigned intensely, mainly in an effort to reach a peace deal in the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, but failed to secure the honor.

According to one of the official spokespersons of the White House and director of communications of the Trump administration, Steven Cheung, the president of the United States will continue to “make peace agreements around the world, ending wars and saving lives”.

“He has a humanitarian heart and there will never be anyone like him, capable of moving mountains with the power of will. The Nobel Committee has shown that it puts politics before peace,” he added.

Asked about Trump’s attempt to win the prize, Norwegian Nobel Committee president Jorgen Watne Frydnes said the decision was based solely on “the work and will of Alfred Nobel.”

According to him, “in the long history of the Nobel Prize committee, the committee has seen all kinds of campaigns and media attention” and has received “thousands of letters every year from people expressing what, for them, leads to peace.”

“This committee meets in a room full of portraits of all the winners, and that room is full of courage and integrity.

We therefore base our decisions exclusively on the work and will of Alfred Nobel”, according to which the winner must meet three established criteria: promoting brotherhood between nations, reducing militarization and working for peace.

Therefore, for the committee, the Venezuelan politician and activist was chosen for her “tireless work to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her fight to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”. .
