“The Predator: The Hunt”: The director used sports movies as inspiration

“The Predator: The Hunt”, a prelude to the 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger “The Predator”, may be an action movie, but in an interview with Olhar Digital, the film’s director Dan Trachtenberg revealed that he had used sports movie storytelling to build your story.

When asked how the original idea developed over time, Trachtenberg confirmed that there had been an evolution from what was initially imagined. “It has evolved a bit over time. I was very interested in making a film that was told primarily through action, “he said.” I didn’t want it to be just a good time. That it was just fun, rock and roll and just popcorn. I really wanted to instill it with heart and emotion and that he was talking about something “.

Then, he revealed that he started from a very curious inspiration for an action movie like “The Predator: The Hunt”: sports feature films. “I watched sports movies and thought that if I could infuse the engine of a losing story with an action movie, we could do something really special. And so I thought it would be great if I could do it for the characters who are often relegated to playing the sidekick, who are never portrayed as the hero of a story. “

The result was a story set in the 1700s, about a young Comanche Native American woman, who must face an alien threat well known to fans of the “Predator” franchise, as she experiences a daily struggle to be recognized by her tribe as a warrior.

Speaking of the franchise, Trachtenberg recalled how Arnold Schwarzenegger was “the pinnacle of what we think of an American hero” and continued. “I just wanted to focus the camera on the other type of character and see if they can rise to the occasion.”

Challenges and impersonation in “The Predator: The Hunt”

In addition to the storytelling, making a film set in this time period is a challenge in itself. But the film featured producer Jhane Myers, who in addition to her film work, is also a Native American from the Comanche nation.

Myers talked about the challenges of creating a film set around this time. “Particularly because there aren’t many documents from the 1700s, such as reference images, etc. So for me, as a Comanche producer and artist, and traditional artist, I was able to use some of our stories because we have an oral tradition, “she commented.

“So I was able to use some of the stories about how things looked, how we used traditional colors, how we used different plants to create those colors,” the producer continued.

But beyond the challenges, Myers talked about how it feels to see a movie like this happen. “It was very inspiring for me as a native woman to see another native woman in the lead role, which you never see,” she said. “Seeing all of this was like living in my tribal past, which was great for me.”

“The Predator: The Hunt” garnered wide critical and audience acclaim and achieved a staggering 93% critical approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, accompanied by a respectable 78% audience approval.

The film is now available in Brazil via Star +.
