An exchange of punches marked the match between Houston Rockets AND New Orleans Pelicans for the pre-season NBAthis Monday, in Birgminham, England. In the second quarter of the game, in a dispute over the rebound, Amen Thompson, of the Rockets, and Jose Alvarado, of the Pelicans, got confused and got into trouble on the court.
Alvarado ended up falling on Thompson, who reacted and pushed his opponent to the ground. Afterwards, the Rockets player threw punches and tried to grab Alvarado, while the Pelicans player tried to fight back, but they were separated by players from both teams.
As punishment, Alvarado received a technical foul, while Thompson received a Level 1 flagrant foul, when there is unnecessary but not excessively violent contact.
The game opened the final week of the NBA preseason. The regular season will begin next Tuesday, the 21st, when the Houston Rockets will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, the reigning champions, in Oklahoma.
The debut of the New Orleans Pelicans against the Memphis Grizzlies, scheduled for next Wednesday, the 22nd, again away from home.
