Actress Lili Reinhart, who plays the character of Betty Cooper in “Riverdale”, is ready to say goodbye to the series, as she embarks on new projects such as the film “What If …?”, Which arrived this Wednesday (17 / 8) to Netflix.
In an interview with Variety magazine, Reinhart called the current moment “bittersweet”.
“There are a lot of feelings. Bittersweet is the word, because obviously I’m going to miss this group of people. [de ‘Riverdale’] I spent half my 20 years with. We’ll never be all together working on the same thing again, so I recognize that and I think we all do and we’re all sad about it, “she said.
Reinhart also stated that there is, in the cast, a great desire to enjoy the last few months together, in the recording of the episodes of the 7th and final season. “I think we all thought, ‘This is our last cheers, let’s really try to celebrate and spend time with each other, because we won’t have it anymore.’
“It’s going to be a really sad day when it really ends, but I think the show has done a lot for all of us and we’re all so ready to show the world what else we have. Speaking of which, knowing what’s going on the other side is super exciting. “, he added.
One of the possibilities opened by “Riverdale” was the possibility to choose and produce their own films, as happened in the novel “The Chemistry Between Us”, released by Amazon Prime Video in 2020, and still now with the melodrama “How Would It Be self…?” on Netflix.
“If it had been 10 years ago, I think it would have just been ‘Let’s give her the executive producer title, but let’s not let her make any decisions,'” Reinhart said of working as a producer. “But I was really a part of the film from start to finish, from finding a director to being involved in the numerous rewrites and casting. So I’m proud to have been a part of pretty much every aspect of the film, and that makes it more special. for me.”
Directed by Kenyan Wanuri Kahiu (“Rafiki”), the film follows Natalie (Reinhart), an ambitious woman who takes a pregnancy test on the eve of her graduation. From there her life diverges into two parallel realities: in one she stays in Texas and becomes a young mother, and in the other the test is negative, she does not get pregnant and moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of work in animation. .
The actress pointed out the plot details, which make the film not seen as a simplistic choice between having a child or a career.
“It was really important to us to make sure that, especially in Natalie’s life as a young mother, the career she worked so hard for, the degree she just got, wasn’t thrown away because she has a son. Like, you see her struggling to find to maintain that path in her life, but it wasn’t something she just gave up or put aside. She’s still actively pursuing her passions as a young mother. It’s not one or the other: career or being a mother. ” , she pointed.
She also felt that being a mother was a conscious choice of the character and not a law enforcement, as conservative states began banning abortion in the United States.
“The great thing about our film, which now sadly looks a bit dystopian – as if, in our world, we no longer have that option – is that a woman in Texas becomes pregnant and is able to decide if she wants to keep the baby. This is not a movie about abortion, but it is a movie about a woman who had the opportunity to make a choice, and the choice was made of her own free will and it turned out to be a beautiful decision for her, because she can do it. “.
After that premiere, Reinhart has several other projects in the works, but they are all waiting for the final season of “Riverdale” to finish.
“I’m incredibly excited about the projects I’ve developed with my production company over the past year and a half that we’ll be ready to shoot when ‘Riverdale’ finishes next summer.”
