Movie Quiz: 10 Pictures, 10 American Classics to Identify!

With a career spanning almost 60 years on the big screen, Martin Scorsese has undoubtedly ascended to the pantheon of the greatest Hollywood directors in film history. A career that began in 1967 with his first feature film Who’s That Knocking At My Door, before the release in 2023 of his latest film The Killers of Flower Moon.

Many historical films

During his twenty-seven films, the filmmaker had the opportunity to focus his camera on different eras of American history. In 2002, he transported us to mid-19th century New York with the Gangs of New York to tell the story of bloody clashes between Irish immigrants on the one hand and “individual Americans” on the other.

Two years later, with Aviator, he focuses on the turbulent life of wealthy businessman Howard Hughes, who is obsessed with aviation and cinema, this time taking us to the 1920s. In 2019, another figure from America will be at the center of The Irishman, trade unionist Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino).

And finally, for his last film, Flower Moon AssassinsThe director is interested in the history of the Osages, this Native American tribe that made its fortune thanks to oil in the early 20th century, arouses the lust of white people who do not hesitate to use violence to express their jealousy and resentment.

all over the world

Although Martin Scorsese did not limit himself to the American continent with his historical films, when, for example, Hugo Cabret takes place in Paris in the 1930s, Silence takes us to Japan in the 17th century, of course without forgetting the last temptation of Christ.

All of these films will, of course, be discussed in a documentary about Mr. Scorsese, available this Friday on Apple TV+. While you wait to find out, I suggest you try to find which of Mr. Scorsese’s films match the ten pictures in this quiz.
