First pictures, I play Rocky: This actor transforms into Stallone and it’s stunning!

After playing Al Pacino behind the scenes in The Godfather, Anthony Ippolito was cast as another famous American actor, Sylvester Stallone, for the film I Play Rocky, which tells the story of the genesis of what is now considered one of the greatest boxing matches of all time.

Directed by Peter Farrell ( Green Book ), the film is currently shooting, and a few on-set photos were shared by Entertainment Tonight that reveal Anthony Ippolito’s transformation into a bigger rock. The images also reveal the presence of an essential character in Stallone’s life, his dog Butkus, in the biopic that we can see on screen in Rocky and Rocky II.

Anthony Ippolito will also star alongside Stephen James (The Color of Victory, If Beale Street Could Talk) as Carl Weathers, the legendary interpreter of the Apollo Creed, but also Matt Dillon (Rusty James, Collision) as Frank Stallone Sr. and Anna Sophia Robb (Charlie and the role of the Rebellion S). then wife, Sasha Chak.

Previously announced names that were recently added (through the deadline) PJ Byrne ( Green Book , The Wolf of Wall Street ) as Saga’s historical producer Irwin Winkler, Toby Kebbell ( For All Mankind , Servant ) as second producer Robert Chartoff, and Tracy Letts ( Lady Bird , The Pentagon Papers ) portraying several executive characters at Sandy Maddox Studios.

Finally, Jay Duplass (The Industry, Transparent) also joins the cast of Play Rocky in the title role of director John Avildsen, who won the 1977 Academy Award for Best Director for his work on Rocky.
