Before the return of David Tennant, the Doctor Who showrunner humorously trolls fans wondering how it will turn out

in the world of Doctor who, everything is possible. People die and come back to life, doppelgangers exist over time, the Doctor regenerates, the list goes on. Shortly after the historian announcement of Ncuti Gatwa as the fourteenth doctor One of the biggest casting rumors has been confirmed. David Tennant will be back Doctor who with Catherine Tate, who played his trusty sidekick Donna Noble, and the showrunner joked that they might not return to the roles we know them for.

Showrunner Russell T. Davies joked in an interview with Doctor Who magazine (through digital spy ) that the return of Tennant and Tate may not be what we expected, especially in a spirit of the time full of multiverses these days anything is possible.

A mysteriously forgotten excursion for the TARDIS between Planet of the Ood and Sontaran Stratagem? Or maybe a multiverse thing, they’re all the rage these days. Maybe I’m the Doctor and Woman of Universe 557, all about to collide with ours. Then again, maybe, just maybe, this return is so impossible that it’s actually a complex illusion created by an old enemy of the Doctor. Or maybe an old enemy of Donna. nery!

At this point, the multiverse is old. Blow A24 Everything, everywhere, all at once rocked the box office last spring. Marvel released the movies. Spider-Man: No homecoming Yes Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madnesswith the Disney + program Loki putting the concept of variants and alternate universes at the center of many future Marvel projects. So it wouldn’t be too surprising if the new Doctor found himself exploring the complexities of the multiverse.

We have already seen something like this in the series with the character of Jenna Coleman, Clara appeared in different time periods and planets as different versions of herself before becoming the companion of the Eleventh Doctor. But who knows. On the show’s 50th anniversary, Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor met Tennant’s Tenth Doctor. He wasn’t a variant or a doppelganger, he was simply the Tenth Doctor we already know and love.

Tennant and Tate were seen on the set of the show. The photos were posted in Scottish of Tennant wearing a Converse trench coat and sneakers, a suit similar to the one he wore during his tenure as a Doctor. But, as Davies joked, we may not see it as we know it. It has also been speculated that, instead of playing the Tenth Doctor, Tennant actually plays the Doctor in which Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor will regenerate and, by the 60th anniversary finale, will regenerate into a Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa.

Although we don’t know how the Tenth Doctor (or Tenth Doctor 2.0, perhaps) and Donna will fit into the next Doctor who story, Davies, who revived the series in 2005, said he may have already revealed the answer.

Of course, you wouldn’t reveal it on DWM pages, would you? But again. This magazine is the first place I revealed Billie Piper’s Rose’s name (in issue 340). So please read carefully. There are truths here.

So we will probably have to wait patiently for the TARDIS and its new Doctor to arrive when and where the Tenth Doctor and Donna (or beings that look suspiciously like them) are. Tennant has anticipated a lot of fun surprises about the upcoming 60th anniversary, but we’ll have to wait a bit to see what wobbly and temporary things the New Doctor and some (perhaps) variations of the Tenth Doctor come up with.
