Alexandre Astier fans are not at all being asked to start another Camelot marathon. And that’s good news, because the first film in the saga is streaming just days before the second installment hits theaters.
Fans of the series are eagerly waiting for the sequel
Headlining Kaamelott is a short-form series broadcast on M6 between 2005 and 2009, created and starring Alexandre Astier. The latter gives its features to King Arthur in a strange but still very respectable adaptation of the legendary stories of the adventures of the Knights of the Round Table.
Many Camelot fans have long awaited a sequel to the series, which Alexandre Astier envisioned as a trilogy for the cinema. And after more than a decade of development, the first film was released in July 2021 and was a success with more than a million admissions in French cinemas.
This feature film takes place 10 years after the end of the series and Arthur’s exile. The deposed king finally agrees to return to Camelot to overthrow his rival Lancelot du Lac and reclaim the throne that is rightfully his. This adventure allows Arthur to meet many faces from his past, but also to retrieve his sword Excalibur, which was left in his rock during the exile.
Wonderful people in the casting of this first installment
Almost all of the series’ performers have agreed to return for this sequel, which is joined by film personalities (Christian Clavier, Guillaume Gallien, Alain Chabat) and even an international star (Sting). As usual, Alexandre Astier combines the roles of screenwriter, director, lead actor, producer, editor-in-chief and music composer.
The first part of the film Kaamelott: Part Two will be available in theaters from October 22 (the second will be released next year). Until then, fans of Alexandre Astier’s saga can watch the first episode now on Disney+.
