The Sandman is tearing down the house on Netflix

Sandman is becoming a summer phenomenon on Netflix. The first two days on the platform were enough to make it the most-watched new series on its release weekend. In the second week, Sandman had seven full days to confirm his strong performance and almost managed to double the number of hours compared to the previous week.

On Tuesday, Netflix’s weekly top 10 rankings were updated by the streaming service, showing the previous week’s movies and series on the platform. From August 8 to 14, Sandman was watched for 127.5 million hours. Second is My First Season 3 with 55 million hours watched.

Between August 1st and 7th, Sandman was viewed for a total of 69.5 million hours, which is already impressive considering that the series was only available on the service for three out of seven days (it was released on August 5th). The series adapted from Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels continues on Netflix, it will be interesting to see if it can keep up this upward curve.

For over 30 years, my role in Sandman adaptations was simply to try to prevent bad things from happening.

This was Neil Gaiman’s statement. The creator of Sandman, While presenting the series at the event Tudum from Netflix. And the author continues:

And fortunately, I have always succeeded in this area. We arrived in 2020 and Sandman was the biggest DC Comics property yet to be adapted. It was widely considered one of the jewels in the crown. It was adult comics that changed everything.

This adaptation is the first thing that convinced me to get on board. We’ve reached a point that didn’t really exist when The Sandman comics started. Thanks to the longer format, the series now has the special effects and budget to bring this world to life. Technologically, we can do Sandman in ways that we couldn’t have dreamed of 15 years ago, even 10 years ago.

It’s not easy, but the resources are there, the people are there, the skills are there, and the determination is there. And now we have a whole generation of high-level creative people who grew up reading comics, who love them and want to bring them to life with authenticity.

This is Sandman made for those who love Sandman, for those who love Sandman, and that’s amazing to me. It’s so special.”

Now we just have to wait for the official Netflix update for the second season.
