New version of the hit series will have Emily Browning in the lead role and promises an unprecedented story set in the same universe as the original

Prison Breaka ratings success that marked TV in the 2000s with its amazing escapes and electrifying twists, will get a new chance. The Hulu platform has made official the production of a reboot of the series. The information was confirmed by Variety.

The new version will be written, directed and produced by Elgin Jamescreator of Mayans MCand will feature Emily Browning (American Gods) as the protagonist. The cast also includes Drake Rodger (The Winchesters), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans MC), JR Bourne (Teen Wolf), Georgie Flores (The Secret Game) and Myles Bullock (BMF).

According to the official synopsis, the plot will follow a former soldier who becomes a prison guard in one of the most dangerous prisons in the United States, willing to do anything “to prove how far she would go for someone she loves”. That is, the new Prison Break It will not be a direct continuation, but will take place in the same universe as the original series, with new characters and stories.

The project marks the return of Paul Scheuringcreator of the original series, now as executive producer alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz — all veterans of the franchise. The responsible studio continues to be 20th Television, part of the Disney group.

Aired between 2005 and 2017 on Fox, Prison Break became a global phenomenon when it chronicled the escape of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), engineer who allowed himself to be arrested to rescue his unjustly convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The series had five seasons, a spin-off film (The Final Break), as well as a spin-off for cell phones (Proof of Innocence), games and even an official magazine. The new series does not yet have a premiere date.
