Idris Elba is back, ready for action! Apple TV has officially revealed a short teaser and a 2023 release date for the second season of Hijack, the platform’s smash hit. We confirm that this thriller, which was only meant to be a mini-series, will return with new episodes.
Date and Teaser for Hijack Season 2
Apple TV has announced that Season 2 of Hijack , still starring Idris Elba, will premiere on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 with two episodes, followed by one episode per week until February 25, 2026.
The announcement was accompanied by a teaser showing Elba’s character, Sam Nelson, boarding a commuter train in Berlin, only to be kidnapped again. This brief excerpt offers a ticking time bomb that sets the tone for a season that promises to be as intense as the last.
Apple’s priority
Hijack Season 2 wrapped filming in February 2025, and Apple reportedly delayed its release to give the series a prominent place in its growing competitive lineup. The new season is now moving from the air to the underground.
According to the official synopsis, “When the Berlin subway and its passengers are taken hostage, the authorities try to save hundreds of people. Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) is on board, at the heart of the action, where one bad decision can be fatal.“
The story continues in the real-time, narrative mode that made the first season so engaging. In addition to Idris Elba, the cast also includes Kristin Adams, Max Beasley, and Archie Panjabi, who reprise their roles. Season 2 of Hijack also adds new talent, including Toby Jones, Lisa Vicar, Claire-Hope Ashitt, Karima McAdams and Christian Paul.
Created by George Kay (Lupin, Crime) and Jim Field Smith (Crime, The Polonium Murder – The Litvinenko Case), the second season of the series consists of eight episodes.
