HBO Max has released a new subtitled teaser of “House of the Dragon”, with many scenes of incendiary battles between armies and dragons. The highlight is for King Viserys (Paddy Considine, from “Peaky Blinders”) and his “kingdom of fire”.
The story follows the Targaryen family, the clan of Daenerys, 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones”, and focuses on Viserys’ succession crisis. The dispute arises because the king has chosen his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy, from “Truth Seekers”), as heir to the Iron Throne. Although she is ready to reign from childhood, her rise is not accepted by those who prefer one man to power: the king’s brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”).
The list of notable conspiracy characters still highlights Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Hand of the Hand (the second most powerful official position in the Seven Kingdoms), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”) as her daughter Alicent Hightower and Steve Toussaint (“It’s a pity”) as Lord Corlys Velaryon, the sea serpent.
The series was co-created by screenwriter Ryan J. Condal (creator of the sci-fi series “Colony”) with the support of that universe’s literary mentor, writer George RR Martin, and is produced and directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for directing the popular “Battle of the Bastards” episode of “Game of Thrones”.
The first is scheduled for Sunday (21/8).
