Streaming Tonight: 12 Years After Titanic, One of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s Best Performances

In 2009, 12 years after the sinking of the Titanic, the couple Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reformed in front of the camera of Sam Mendes in the film Rebellion. However, the registry change is total! Here the love story is not a fairy tale and the duo will gradually break up.

Terrifying story

The story takes us to America in the 1950s. Frank and April Wheeler, played by DiCaprio and Winslet, consider themselves different beings, special people, different from others. They always wanted to base their existence on high ideals. As they move into their new home on a revolutionary path, they proudly proclaim their independence.

They will never adapt to the suburban inertia that surrounds them, they will never fall into the trap of social conventions. Yet despite their charm and bravado, the Wheelers become exactly what they didn’t want to be: a man stuck in a boring job; A housewife who dreams of passion and an exciting existence.

An ordinary American family that has lost its dreams and illusions. Determined to turn her life around, April hatches a daring plan to start over, leaving their comfortable routine in Connecticut to live in Paris…

Dissection of the average pair

Prior to his adventure with Skyfall in 2012, director Sam Mendes offered this little gem of a family drama that looked at the average American couple, as he brilliantly did in 2000’s American Beauty.

Note that Les Noces Rebels is an adaptation of a novel Revolutionary road / panoramic window by Richard Yates, published by Robert Lafont in 1961. When it was published, the novel shook the literary world, sparking heated discussions about the nature of marriage and the role of men and women in modern society.

By playing the Wheeler couple with such intensity, DiCaprio and Kate Winslet do justice to this great literary classic. As the story progresses, we witness the inevitable disintegration of love, consumed by conditioning and immobility.

Michael Shannon shines

Alongside the reformed Titanic tandem, we also find Michael Shannon stealing the show from the two actors during an absolutely memorable dinner scene in extreme tension! Never has a food scene been so electrifying in cinema.

“In this story, I saw an opportunity to show the breakup of a couple, all the complexity, vulnerability, cruelty and raw emotion. Sometimes, two people who want to be together, who feel they should be together, just can’t do it.”– Sam Mendes assured during the promotion of the film.

If you’ve never seen The Rebellion, don’t hesitate any longer and head over to Paramount+, the platform that hosts this little gem of cinema!
