The approval of the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro (PL), rose to 53% after the police operation carried out last week in the Alemão compounds, according to a Genial/Quaest poll. In August, 43% of the state’s population approved it.
Disapproval dropped from 41% to 40% after the police action. “The improvement in the governor’s approval rating occurred because the majority believes that the operation was authorized to fight organized crime (54%), not as a popular action”, underlines the director of Quaest, Felipe Nunes, in an analysis published on X.
The approval of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has not undergone significant changes. Among state residents, 64% disapprove of the federal government, while 34% approve. In August, 62% gave it a negative rating, while 37% viewed it negatively. “Many things happened between August and October, several positive effects could have been nullified by the operation, or the population did not reward/punish the president for this case.”
The research was conducted between October 30 and 31, via in-person household interviews. In total, 1,500 people from different regions of the state were interviewed. The margin of error is three percentage points, at a 95% confidence level.
