HBO has released a new teaser for the series “The Idol”, co-created and starring The Weeknd. The preview has sexy scenes, but its highlight is the presentation of the cast of the attraction. Core members are shown individually with their names in bold, including some not listed above.
The video indicates, for example, that The Weeknd prefers to be identified by his first name, Abel Tesfaye. The lead actress is Lily-Rose Depp (“Travelers”), daughter of stars Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, and the cast includes Suzanna Son (“Red Rocket”), despite rumors that she was replaced by Debby Ryan (” Insatiable “), singers Troye Sivan (” Boy Erased “), Moses Sumney (” Creed “), Jane Adams (” Hung “), Dan Levy (” Schitt’s Creek “), Hank Azaria (” Brokmire “), Eli Roth (“Inglourious Basterds”), Rachel Sennott (“Shiva Baby”), Hari Nef (“Country of Violence / Assassination Nation”), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“My Name Is Dolemite”), Ramsey (“Clementine”), music producer Mike Dean and none other than Jennie Ruby Jane, better known as Jennie Kim of South Korean musical phenomenon BLACKPINK.
These are just the names listed in the preview, because the cast is much larger and with other big names, including Anne Heche (“Chicago PD”) who recently passed away.
Developed in collaboration between The Weeknd and Sam Levinson, creator of “Euphoria”, “The Idol” follows a pop singer who begins a romance with a self-help guru and Los Angeles club owner, unaware that he is the head of a secret sect. Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye lives the guru.
The behind-the-scenes production was tense, as director Amy Seimetz (“I’ll Die Tomorrow”), who would direct the six ordered episodes, left the project in the midst of creative conflicts. Subsequently, Levinson took a more active role in the production, including directing the episodes, which acquired their visual impact, as can be seen from the teaser.
“The Idol” doesn’t have a release date yet.
