Scream: From Drew Barrymore to Nev Campbell
Released in 1996, Scream created an event and in particular introduced to the public characters that would shock entire generations: Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), Dewey Riley (David Arquette), without forgetting the essential Sidney Prescott. And if it is impossible to imagine another actor than Neve Campbell in the guise of the hero of the saga, he was not the first choice.
At that time, the role should really be played by… Drew Barrymore! While he turned down the offer for scheduling reasons, the actor revealed in ET was still chosen to lend his features to the serial killer’s first victim. He then hinted to Wes Craven that having her die early in the feature film was a great idea, allowing it to be planted in the public’s mind that anything can happen in Scream!
Where Drew Barrymore had little appreciation for the director’s imagination, of course, was when he used the actor’s involvement in animal work to amplify his emotions tenfold on screen. He would tell her about abused animals so that she could scream as much as possible during this opening scene, which has become iconic.
Scream 2: Spoiler Hunt

Released only 1 year after the first opus, Scream 2 could have had a completely different story. A few weeks before filming, a script written by Kevin Williamson was leaked online and fans were outraged because Sidney Prescott was going to die in it! Faced with the situation, several scenes and especially the end of the film were completely rewritten at the last moment.
And to avoid any other danger, the screenwriter waited until the last week of shooting to give the actors the last ten pages. Therefore, the actors of Scream 2 started the project without knowing the outcome of the story and the identity of the killer.
Scream 3: Never two without three

After the twist of Scream 2, production on Scream 3 doubled as a precaution to make sure no one could figure out the ending of the movie. That’s why journalists were able to watch it 2 days before its release in cinemas, and no test screening was organized. But that’s not all…
With no shortage of ideas, Wes Craven shot 3 different final scenes without telling the actors which one he intended to use. So the technical crew and the entire cast first discovered the film as we know it in previews.
Scream 4: Kristen Stewart Rejection

In 2011, the franchise that revolutionized the horror and slasher genre returned to our screens after an 11-year absence. If Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox will reprise their roles, Scream 4 also assumes the presence of Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Alison Brie, Adam Brody, Anna Paquin or even Kristen Bell. A very nice casting, in which we could also find … Kristen Stewart!
Despite his love for Scream, he, who rose to fame at this time thanks to Twilight, turns down the invitation to interpret the young woman who is killed at the beginning of the film. And for a very specific reason: Drew Barrymore’s stage shadow. “I was like, ‘I can’t do Drew anymore, I can’t touch this.’ You know what I mean?” – he confided in an interview with Slay, an idea that must have entered Wes Craven’s mind, as the opening of this 4th episode was changed to not focus on a single murder.
Scream: Head back

After the 90s, 2000s and 2010s, crying also lit up the 2020s by delighting its audience. Marking the 25th anniversary of the release of the first film, the 5th installment in the saga is also the first not to be directed by Wes Craven, who died in 2015. Those who made a name for themselves with the horror movie Wedding Nightmare a few years ago.
A true sequel and not a remake or spin-off, the feature film is called “Scream” rather than “Scream 5” to update continuity. “I just think we’ve got 5 out and it works to just call it Scream because it’s like a brand new movie,” the screenwriter explains. Kevin Williamson. There’s an original cast here, and the way it blends into this new world with this new generation and these new actors is a joy.”
The directors have also preferred the old methods to the digital one, which facilitates the magic of make-up. “There’s bound to be some excitement when the makeup crew arrives on set with buckets full of blood. It feeds the general tumult, the observation of this artisanal work.’
