In its various trailers, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” hinted that Scarlet Witch will be a competitor in the new adventure of the former Sorcerer Supreme.
Fans of the Marvel Cinema Universe know the story of Wanda Maximoff’s pain and loss, so they have already seen this change from heroine to villain coming and they even accept and support her on social media.
The line between heroism and evil is very easy to cross, especially in comic book based stories. As some of the most powerful superheroes have committed heinous crimes, there are also evil ones with redemptive qualities.
Here are some superhero movies where the villain has such convincing plans that make the fans support him so much or more than the protagonists.
“Avengers: Infinity War”
For years Thanos appeared as a hidden entity, moving the threads of all the bad things that happened in the MCU. but it was not until the penultimate cassette of Infinity Saga that its purpose and motives were revealed.
The so-called crazy Titan suffered the loss of his planet due to ecological imbalance and overuse of resources, so he became obsessed with the idea of saving the rest of the universe so that they would not suffer the same fate.
There are no lives more precious in his heart than others, so he was even able to sacrifice his own daughter to fulfill his mission.
His plan was to use the Infinity Stones to wipe out half the population of the universe, as only then would life be guaranteed.
‘Batman’
Edward Naston was a boy who, along with the other residents of the orphanage, was waiting for help from the Renewal Fund promised by Thomas Wayne. After the death of the tycoon and his wife, this money never came, because it was stolen by politicians and members of Gotham’s elite.
Growing up, Edward sought revenge and became The Riddler. Although his methods were not correct, he was right to feel resentment against the people who left a group of orphans to their fate.
“X-Men: First Class”
From his first appearance in the comics, Magneto is a complex character. Although he is evil, his decisions are almost always aimed at saving other mutants from the oppression of the rest of humanity.
In this tape, he shows the cruelty with which he was treated simply because he was different, which motivated him to use all his strength to prevent the extermination of mutants.
Charles Xavier may not agree with his methods, but deep down he knows Magneto is right.
‘The dark Knight’
Harvey Dent was what Gotham City always wanted: an incorruptible prosecutor with a real intention to bring the city’s most powerful criminals to justice.
The Joker knew this, so he decided to take the love of his life and mark his body forever. From the trauma of this ordeal, Two-Face was born, a ruthless murderer seeking revenge against those who took away his happiness.
Two-Face served to show the great power of Batman’s will, since like Dent, Bruce Wayne had significant losses in his life, but nothing had taken him away from his sense of justice.
‘Black panther’
N’Jadaka grew up without his father and was abandoned by the rest of the Wakandan family, so he had to fight alone to stand out in a world full of injustice.
He took Killmonger’s name and began plotting to get back what he thought was rightfully his: the Wakanda crown. His intention was to come to power and then start a war against the western world, to liberate all his people once and for all.
Thanks to Killmonger, T’Challa was able to connect with himself, moving from a man who inherited his crown to one who won the right to lead Wakanda to a new era.
Captain America: Civil War
Helmut Zemo was responsible for dismantling the Avengers, but he was not really bad. His motive was to take revenge on his family, who died from the carelessness of the heroes in Sokovia.
Tony knows that the Avengers need limits, so he decides to sign the Sokovia Agreements, an act that would limit the superheroes’ activities and make them responsible for their actions.
Zemo was imprisoned, but he achieved his goal: to face the Avengers and show how divided they really were. His success in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” showed the great support he has from his fans.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
This tape proved a truth that is ignored in comics: not all bad guys are bad by nature. Some are just ignorant people who want to excel at something, others are victims of mutations, while others are just trying to do what they think is best for their family.
Spider-Man knows everyone deserves a second chance, even Green Goblin, who is responsible for one of the MCU’s most tragic deaths.
Peter had every right to be angry with the Green Goblin, even to end it, but in the end he decided not to deviate from the path of justice, showing his great personal and heroic development.
