In the last year, the first Live Saturday night Actor Horatio Sanz was part of a lawsuit in which an unnamed woman accused the comedian of sexual assault at a 2002 after party for the NBC sketch comedy. On August 23, comedians Jimmy Fallon and Tracy Morgan, as well as SNL boss Lorne Michaels, were added to the lawsuit as Jane Doe’s lawyer accused them of “authorizing” the alleged assault.
The Pennsylvania woman who sued Horatio Sanz and NBC is believed to be 17 at the time of the alleged incident and according to new court documents obtained by Term , said Jimmy Fallon and Tracy Morgan participated in the culture that allowed aggression and that Lorne Michaels knew that underage girls were often invited to parties and served alcohol. Prosecutor’s attorney Susan Crumiller said:
Sanz and her entertainers lured Jane into their celebrity world and made her feel like a great little girl to drink and party with a group of famous adults. Instead, they destroyed her life. Jane has spent the past two decades coping with the repercussions of what she has been done to her. now it’s your turn. We hope to hold NBC, Sanz, and everyone else who allowed this disgusting behavior to blame when GMVA’s research window opens in March.
According to court documents, Jane Doe has spoken and dated Jimmy Fallon on several occasions due to the comedian’s close friendship with Horatio Sanz during the time Sanz allegedly “cured Jane”. Tracy Morgan allegedly hosted the “after party” in which the alleged assault took place.
NBC filed a motion in April 2022 to dismiss the original complaint, stating (via IndieWire ) the channel was not responsible for Sanz’s compensated actions and that it was not its duty to “protect third parties from the possibility of sexual abuse by its employees”. Regardless of Jane Doe’s changing stories, NBC intends to renew its motion to dismiss.
In response to the original lawsuit, Horatio Sanz’s attorney Andrew Brettler said TMZ that Jane Doe’s claims were “categorically false” and “ridiculous”. She further stated:
Before filing a complaint anonymously, he asked for $ 7.5 million in exchange for his silence. Of course, we reject and vigorously contest these totally unfounded claims.
