The news comes just a month and a half after its July 14 premiere. Resident Evil: the series was not well received by critics and debuted only in the second position of the world rankings, behind the almighty Stranger things; in Brazil he made his debut in third place, also behind the national team tuning. From the second week, however, there has been no increase or maintenance of the audience, as was foreseen by the streaming service.

After 72.7 million hours watched in the first week and another 73.3 million in the second, when it was in third place in the global ranking, the series has stopped appearing in the most viewed content. The results were considered low for a series that, prior to its premiere, was considered one of the highlights of Netflix’s geek programming for the start of this second half, appearing alongside sand man And The Umbrella Academy at corporate events.

Although Netflix has not publicly confirmed the fate of the show, at least one of the protagonists of the production is already talking about it. On Twitter, the show’s special effects supervisor Kevin Lingenfelser complained about the show’s cancellation and thanked fans who were looking forward to a second season.

“I’m not surprised but a little shocked to say that Netflix’s Resident Evil has been canceled. Thanks to everyone who watched all eight episodes, to those who enjoyed the series and were looking forward to a second season.

With a story far removed from the games, even though its showrunner has pledged allegiance, Resident Evil: the series takes us to the city of New Raccoon City. Albert Wesker is one of the leading scientists of a revamped version of Umbrella and has two daughters, Billie and Jade; the second is the protagonist of the second narrative arc of the show, set in a post-apocalyptic future in which the viruses of the pharmaceutical company have led to the near extinction of humanity.

To the Canaltechthe show was criticized for distorting and ignoring the events of the games to impose its own storyline.in addition to leaving aside the atmosphere of the games to bet on an imprint much more similar to that of the films starring Milla Jovovich (Monster hunter). The episodes carry nonsense twists and cliches often seen in horror and zombie media, only done much better in other products.

Resident Evil: the series had Lance Reddick (John Wick), Ella Balinska (The panthers), Paola Nunez (Bad guys forever) and Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl: The secret world) in the main roles. The production was by Andrew Dabb, of Supernatural.
