After making a documentary and a drama film, the Thai cave rescue will now become a series. Netflix has released the poster and trailer for the production, which is obviously called “The Thai Cave Rescue”.
The production tells the true story of the rescue of 12 young Thai footballers and their coach from a flooded cave. The 2018 incident attracted worldwide attention and attracted more than 10,000 volunteers, who joined an international group of experts to organize and execute one of the most daring and dangerous rescues of all time.
With locations in Thailand, the series’ recordings take place in the homes where the rescued boys lived in real life and in the flood cave itself.
The cast is also completely Thai and the best known name is the actor Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote. The actor’s coach for the boys starred in the Netflix series “The Stranded” and died in March at the age of 25.
The series was developed by Michael Russell Gunn (“Billions”) and Dana Ledoux Miller (“Narcos”), directed by Baz Poonpiriya (“One for the Road”) and Kevin Tancharoen (“The Book of Boba Fett”), and features executive production by director Jon M. Chu (“In a New York Neighborhood”).
Chu thought about making a movie about this story, but Ron Howard (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”) took the lead, releasing “Thirteen Lives” on August 5 on Amazon’s Prime Video platform.
But while the film tells the story from the rescue team’s perspective, the Netflix series will be a kid-centric narrative.
“The Thai Cave Rescue” opens on September 22nd.
