Tonight on TV: Jean Dujardin’s greatest success

Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Jean Dujardin as Break Surfer.

Starting a career as a comedian, Jean Dujardin was inspired by a former classmate, as well as very distinguished surfers from his region, to create a pretentious, egotistical character, obsessed with his appearance, who likes to “break” everyone (that is, to annoy the interlocutor with a cruel speaker).

This is how the famous Brice de Nice was born in 1995, the star of his shows, and then of television sketches. His popularity is such that ten years later the actor decides to dedicate a feature film to him.

Thanks to the screenwriter Carine Angell, whom he met on Un Gars, une Fille, he managed to build a whole world for him, directed by James Huth. Deliciously cocky and carefree, Brice is surrounded by equally down-to-earth characters, camped out by the brilliant Clovis Cornilac (Marius and his special legs) and Bruno Salomone (his sworn nemesis, Igor d’Hossegor).

Brice de Nice was particularly profitable when it was released in cinemas, attracting an estimated 4.5 million viewers. It is also, to date, Jean Dujardin’s biggest film success (not including the Les Petits mochures, in which he only appears).

Awarded the French Film Cup, the feature film has over time become as iconic as the expression “I broke you!“, or that funny song Brice’s robbery.
