The festival that opens to the male, vintage and conservative, like metal, will have its most plural evening on the 8th, when the programming of the Mundo stage will be able to speak to all ages.
Among the more than 560 hours of music from Rock in Rio, it’s time to get to work. Or, at least, what interests most who are in the City of Rock between 2 and 11 September: the stage of the Mundo. Even those who will not be at Rock in Rio for all the reasons that have become insurmountable filters – lack of money, lack of tickets, lack of accommodation – will be able to follow the broadcasts on TV.
Globo commands the broadcasting area and will use its capillarity of open TV, streaming and cable channels, with Globo, Multishow, Canal Bis and Globoplay. Among the selected presenters are Marcos Mion, Didi Wagner, Didi Effe, Ana Clara, Malena, Thais Barja, Guilherme Guedes, China and Jimmy London. They will appear in a glass studio in the middle of Rock City.
The advertising officer, Roberto Medina, owner of the brand and the festival, created the motto “all ours again”, conveying the idea of returning to live after two years of artistic confinement. The broadcast promises not only to be on the Mundo Stage, but also to show what’s happening to Sunset, Favela and New Dance Order.
The division between the companies was as follows: Multishow and Globoplay will broadcast the main shows live. Multi for subscribers and Globoplay for non-subscribers who have logged into the platform. Canal Bis enters as a support in the transmission of some shows. At the end of the evening, TV Globo shows a compact with the best moments.

The famous “Black Shirts Day”, or “Metal Night”. The traditional date began with the first Rock in Rio, in 1985, and has never ceased to exist. Nothing new, but which metal fan is looking for it? What matters is seeing and reviewing Iron Maiden and Sepultura, like a record that spins relentlessly. Heavy metal fans and their kinship sacralise their idols, even if they return every year. After the sound ideological radicalism of metal, concessions and refreshments arrive. Post Malone, which many prefer not to call rap in the most classic sense of the term, comes with his latest platformer, Twelve Carat Toothache. He closes a night that he has the cuteness of Mashmello, the cuteness of Jason Derulo and the cuteness of Alok before. It will be a younger day, much younger and with less strident sounds. An amusement park, cute and colorful.

There will be more pop substance here than the night before on a stage split between gringos and Brazilians. It’s Justin Bieber’s old superproduct pop that closes the night after Demi Lovato’s return from yet another rehabilitation in spectacular form. Justin managed to keep himself in a place that many felt was too much for his talents. At 28 he got there and matured the sound he produced. He has to dedicate half of the hour-long show to Justice’s 2021 lineup. Don’t even think about leaving Baby and Sorry out. By now, everyone will have forgotten what Jota Quest and Iza have done so far.

Rock reopens the work of the week, but now with a mixture of decadence and victory, past and present, weight and pop. Guns N ‘Roses, if they repeat what they have done in other stages, they will make a rather delicate transition. Axl’s lack of voice, even for a die-hard fan, sounds like noise. There comes a time when Slash will no longer save. Before him the Italians of Maneskin will bring a dignity that the times have not seen for a long time. And a dignity that changes the dialectical axis of rock. Pay close attention to the Maneskin, this band from Rome that opened for the Rolling Stones and put Italy on the rock map of the 1920s. A curious night that begins with Capital Initial and ends with Green Day. There is nothing new here, and Billy Idol may be an “old surprise”. Green Day, who will close the stage, will be devastating. Although he is no longer at the center of the post-post-punk he brought in the 90s, his presence is still explosive. Billie Joe Armstrong guarantees great show performances and drummer Treé Cool is a show apart. The American Idiot stuff should be at the center of it all, despite failed efforts to have something so relevant in recent years.

The grandparents stay with Djavan, the parents with Coldplay and the children with Camila Cabelo. But everything will surely be anesthetized during Coldplay’s cosmic journey, the best show to go through Rock in Rio this year.

Ultra-voltage pop, but revisited pop, contemporary, provocative and feminine. Ivete Sangalo will be her and another visit to the festival. But from Rita Ora on, everything takes on new life. Megan Three Stallion is the freshness of a more recent R&B, Sweetest Pie and Beautiful Mistake. You have a new album to show, Traumazine, but you should focus on what works in your one-hour schedule. And Dua Lipa, protagonist of the stars of the edition, closes the 2022 festival with all the strength that makes it have almost 70 million monthly listeners on just one of the streaming platforms.
