The second episode of “House of the Dragon” raised questions and events promise to spark further political developments in King’s Landing, especially after King Viserys I’s decision to marry Alicent Hightower, daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.
On the other hand, episodes of the “Game of Thrones” spin-off also revealed the appearance of an alleged new villain in the universe: the Crabfeeder (Crabfeeder, in the original). His real name is Craghas Drahar and he is mentioned by Lord Corlys Velaryon at a council meeting.
According to Corlys, Fatten Crab called himself Prince Admiral of the “Triarch”, alliance between the Free Cities, and his nickname derives from the punitive methods against his enemies, which involved nailing men to poles and letting them be eaten alive by crabs.
The Free Cities are Myr, Tyrosh and Lys, regions of the continent of Essos. The nomenclature derives from the fact that the cities have their own government, independent from Ancient Valyria (origin of Essos). Meanwhile, Stepstones is the archipelago that lies across the Narrow Sea and connects Essos with Westeros, the two continents of George RR Martin’s universe.
At the council meeting, Lord Corlys mentions that the Triarch is trying to rid the Stepstones of a pirate infestation, which King Viserys doesn’t see as a problem. However, Corlys states that the Fat Crab troop operation at Steps damages sea lanes and ports, as it is an important strategic location: the Steps form a cluster of islands east of Dorne, region of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
With this, Corlys says in the second episode that four ships of King’s Landing have been lost, one of which flew the flag of House Velaryon. The council points out that Fatten Crab is allegedly receiving ships from the Free Cities and the villain doesn’t mind going through and torturing anyone who gets in his way.
“The Fattening Crab is supported by powerful entities within the Free Cities who want to see Western Continent weakened. And the king’s failures allowed him to gather strength. If these shipping lanes collapse, my home will be paralyzed. ”Corlys quotes.
That said, after King Viserys’ refusal to interfere in this crusade and go against the wishes of Corlys, who offered the hand of his daughter, Laena Velaryon, Lord Velaryon decides to enlist the help of Daemon Targaryem to fight Fat Crab. In the third episode trailer, the villain can make a much bigger appearance and everything points to a battle on the steps should take place.
Viserys I’s marriage to Alicent Hightower should bring more intrigue and conflict into the series’ plot. In addition to the likely battle with Fatten Crab, it is possible to wonder what the next steps will be for some characters like Otto Hightower, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Sir Criston Cole. The consequences are about to arrive and the third episode of “House of the Dragon” arrives this Sunday (04), at 10pm, on HBO and HBO Max.
