Released in 1992, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, Aladdin is inspired by the famous tale of 1001 Nights and tells the story of a young wanderer in love with Princess Jasmine. While exploring the legendary Cave of Wonders, he discovers a magical lamp inhabited by a genie that can grant him three wishes of his choosing. But the Grand Vizier Jafar, who has wanted the Sultan’s throne for many years, also tries to take the lamp.

Jafar’s gaze

A long dark cloak, an imposing and graceful figure, a headdress in the form of horns, a large staff and a bird for a companion. Jafar’s appearance seems to be directly inspired by another famous antagonist of the Disney studios: the unforgettable Maleficent, the villain of Sleeping Beauty in 1959 and the live action played by Angelina Jolie.

Jafar’s voice

Voiced by musical actor Jonathan Freeman in the original version, Jafar portrays a true dubbing legend in the French version: the very charismatic Fedor Atkin. In addition to the Grand Vizier in Aladdin, this famous actor lent his voice to Hugo Weaving’s films The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings, as well as Hugh Laurie’s Doctor Who, William Hurt, Jeremy Irons and Ben Kingsley.

Cut song

At first, instead of repeating the melody of the song Prince Ali When he took power at the end of the film, Jafar had to sing a different tune: a piece called Humiliation boyand in which he took his revenge on Aladdin.
