Director Kevin Smith follows Employees III with another film sequel in its narrator. Apparently she wants to revisit one of the strangest additions to his filmography. Smith decided to make a sequel to the 2014 film, Canine with Justin Long.
He revealed it for a long time fang 2 is currently being developed by Smith during a recent interview with Slash Film. The barbarian Star was invited to return for the sequel, along with other familiar faces from the original film. Length revealed:
He texted us the other day, Haley. [Joel Osment] and genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was serious. And then one of [other] the investigators replied: “Yes, he told me the same thing”.
Canine it is certainly strange to revisit it. The film is basically about a podcaster, played by Long, who meets a strange man he wants to interview for his podcast. A curse is placed on him and – SPOILER NOTICE – the podcaster slowly morphs into Morse code throughout the movie.
While incredibly strange, the film clearly draws inspiration from the work of David Cronenberg. To fly, about a man who turns into a title bug. The film developed a cult following and was a major part of Jeff Goldblum, so it’s understandable that Kevin Smith is interested in emulating the premise.
like what fang 2 would be? We can only assume. Long’s fate in the original film leaves me perplexed about her possible involvement. Perhaps Long feels a deeper connection with the character now that the actor has his hugely successful podcast. Life is short with Justin Long.
I would never have doubted Kevin Smith’s ability to persuade actors to return to their old territory. Smith brought back Ben Affleck for an appearance in both Jay and Silent Bob: reboot Yes Employees III. Smith and Affleck became friends in the early 1990s and Smith helped to do so Goodwill hunting Finished. The two recently rekindled their friendship and Smith attended Affleck’s wedding to Jennifer Lopez.
Smith has had quite a hectic months. As well as attending Bennifer’s lavish wedding and promotion Employees IIISmith recently faced a bomb threat at the Atlantic Moviehouse in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, a movie theater he recently bought. The independent director wasn’t sure whether to take the threat seriously or see it as a hint of the quality of the director’s films. Smith’s films, like Tusk, aren’t for everyone.
Well, I’ll continue to speculate on what Canine sequel might imply, and if I’m going to embrace such a ridiculous film. Meanwhile, Kevin Smith Employees III will be in selected theaters from September 13, 2022.
