In an interview with QA, Mikkelsen said, “You can take preparing for a role to an insane level. And if the movie sucks, what will you have achieved? Should I be impressed that you didn’t get out of character? You should have dropped the idea since the beginning! How do you prepare to play a serial killer? Are you going to spend two years experimenting?”
For Mikkelsen, “the whole idea is too pretentious” and the method is not worth it. However, the actor has nothing against colleagues who use the technique and would love to work with one. “Daniel Day-Lewis is a great actor, but it has nothing to do with the method […] I would have a lot of fun just taking the character apart constantly.”
