Actors Sebastian Stan (“The Hawk and the Universal Soldier”) and Seth Rogen (“The Unlikely Couple”) will star in “Dumb Money,” a financially involving GameStop company to be directed by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella “). The project will mark the reunion of Stan, Rogen and Gillespie after working together on the miniseries “Pam & Tommy”.
The film will tell the financial maneuver that rocked Wall Street. The case occurred in early 2021, when a group of Wall Street shareholders tried to cash in on the possible bankruptcy of the GameStop company and invested a large sum by “betting against” the company. If the bet paid off – and all evidence pointed to that result – they would be well rewarded.
However, GameStop, which is a game retailer, had a fan base. And these fans began to manipulate the market, systematically buying the company’s stock and skyrocketing its market value – in about three weeks, the shares appreciated by more than 700%. With the rise in shares, investors who bet on the company’s decline have lost their luck.
The big cast will also include Paul Dano (“Batman”) and Pete Davidson (“The Art of Growing Up”).
The screenplay was written by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum (both from (“Orange Is the New Black”), based on the book “The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to its “. Knees” by Ben Mezrich.
Mezrich is also the author of the book “Billionaires by Chance”, which gave rise to the film “The Social Network” (2010), about the founding of Facebook. And the real twins Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss, featured in that book – and played by Armie Hammer in the film – are executive producers of “Dumb Money”.
“Lauren and Rebecca have masterfully adapted Ben Mezrich’s outstanding book, detailing one of the greatest loser stories of our time. Craig Gillespie is an extraordinary leader with exceptional vision and has put together a phenomenal ensemble of actors. are honored to partner with him and this fantastic team on and behind the camera to bring “Dumb Money” to audiences around the world, “producer Teddy Schwarzman said in a statement.
Filming on “Dumb Money” will begin in October, but there is no release date yet.
Seth Rogen will soon be seen in the film “The Fabelmans”, a “semi-autobiographical” project directed by Steven Spielberg (“Amor, Sublime Amor”), which will be released in Brazilian theaters on February 9, 2023, while Sebastian Stan has completed two projects. Undated: the drama “Sharper”, starring Julianne Moore (“The Woman in the Window”), and the thriller “A Different Man”, which marks the debut of Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the world “) in Hollywood.
